My Friend Samantha...

Today is my good friend Samantha Waltz's birthday. If there was an angel on this earth it would be this woman. I can't even begin to thank her for rescuing my husband and I when we were in dire straights; she was our rock, our wind and we will love her forever because of it.

An amazing writer, Sam has so many stories in anthologies, that the last time I ask her how many, she couldn't remember. Her workshops are second to none. She is a professional down to her socks.

Happy birthday, Sam! May you have a hundred more... Minnette :o)

Jessa Slade, my very good friend (and one of my favorite authors), has a great new book coming out called FORGED OF SHADOWS. If you like suspense, you'll love this book. Check it out...http://jessaslade.wordpress.com/excerpts/book-2-of-the-marked-souls/

Book 2 of The Marked Souls

Liam Niall has led the Chicago league of immortal warriors and their repentant demons for longer than he cares to remember. Four months ago, everything he thought he understood about the war against the Darkness was blown apart. Now, with the shocking appearance of a fiery new female talya, the world he’s supposed to save is about to change again. . . .

Liam, meet your newest recruit.

From FORGED OF SHADOWS.
Available from Signet Eclipse June 1, 2010.

Prologue

Gray dust clogged the frigid air. Filthy snow lay all around, streaked with ash and blood and some odd fibrous gelatinous mess.

He put his hand to his aching head. Bone pulped under the tentative touch and he winced. His fingers came away slimed with crimson and gray matter.

That couldn’t be good.

Stones rained around him, and he choked on the acrid stink of demon-realm winds. Dimly, he remembered. He’d been trapped there, his soul bound into the Veil by that bitch talya and her lover.

But here he was, back in the human realm. His pores beaded with sulfur as his demon ascended, struggling to protect his all-too-human flesh from the stoning.

It coiled through him, the demon, and tightened its grasp.

He’d fleetingly—so fleetingly—hoped to be freed from it after all the long centuries of slavery. Now a slave again.

He tried to weep, but the acid sting of birnenston tears only burned furrows in his cheeks.

He wanted to succumb to the pounding stones, be buried forever. But the demon yanked him upright, shedding dust and ice and blood like some terrible birth cowl. He clenched his teeth, resisting the demon’s intangible grip, but his head ached all the worse and he could summon neither wit nor will. The demon awkwardly coordinated his limbs into a shambling gait.

Worse than a slave.

As the demon rode him like a dumb animal away from the collapsing building—the site of his desperate bid to free the world from the chains of helpless good and hopeless evil that bound it—Corvus Valerius could not decide whom he hated more. The malevolent djinni that had brought him back from the dead, or the bastard league of the teshuva who had the chance to kill him once and for all and failed.

Leaving on a jet... train

When the train left yesterday with my darling son and his beautiful bride, the dams burst and I couldn't drive home. Had to have DH do it for me... You never know how much you're going to miss someone until they walk (or train) away. Am going to take a few days and just "be" until I can wash the sorrow out of my heart. It's bitter sweet since I know they are heading to the adventure of a lifetime and I'm so very proud of their accomplishments. Just can't seem to get the notion out of my head that they'll never be back. Silly, huh? But DH tells me not to worry... they will make their way home. That doesn't keep me from wanting to get in my van and beg for gas money all the way to N. Carolina! Sometimes being a mother is just plain hard...

The Lord of Pleasure by Delilah Marvelle

Over the years it has been my pleasure to become acquainted with some amazing writers. Not just as artists, but as caring, kind people who go out of their way to help new writers and kick old writers in the ass from time to time. To honor those wonderful men and women who have helped me and countless others on the way, I will be featuring some of their delicious books. Everyone of these is a must read!

Delilah Marvelle is a stunning beauty, funny, flirty, and just a little bit bawdy where it counts. It's uncanny how much she resembles one of those outrageous heroines from her own Regency novels. When I took that first tentative step into the romance genre, Delilah was supportive, caring, encouraging, and unafraid to give me a good kick in the rear when I needed it. Below is her newest historical, The Lord of Pleasure. This is a delightfully charming, sexy, and compelling book everyone should read. Minnette :o)

DESPERATE TIMES LEAD TO DESPERATE PLEASURES....

Once upon a time Alexander William Baxendale, the Earl of Hawksford, was known to all of London and its besotted women as the Lord of Pleasure. Those days of frolicking, however, come to an abrupt end when he inherits not only the estate, but all of his responsibilities, including five, overzealous sisters and a not-so-proper mother. When Alexander meets the beautiful Lady Chartwell, he finds himself yearning for days of old. Left penniless by her philandering husband, Lady Chartwell survives financial ruin by turning to scandal and becoming the Conductor of Admissions to a school that educates men in the art of seduction. Alexander knows that desperate times call for desperate pleasures, but if he's lucky, it may very well lead him to a hell of a lot more.
