I did the police thing about 13 or 14 years ago. More recently, I started a MySpace and Facebook (which I don't use as much). But I haven't really done too much with it yet. I do write motivational quotes that catch my attention, though. Guess I should do more writing with it though!
JulieJulie Robinsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10242380140265459688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6645668510437220267.post-27591723161426869952009-04-22T09:17:00.000-07:002009-04-22T09:17:00.000-07:00CS - I just called the precinct in the section of ...CS - I just called the precinct in the section of town where my book takes place and they set it up for me. There's nothing like the rush of a ride-along. :)

I never really had a clue just how much danger police officers put themselves in everyday until I took a CPA class and went on an overnight ride-along. You go through several nights of listening to them, watching slides of how victims are left at crime scenes (which will cure anyone real fast of feeling sorry for the perp because of his 'hard' life), and one night going in the patrol car with the police.

So I know exactly what you mean about riding with them. When mine got out to investigate this seedy apartment in the lower end of town with the warning "Lock your door," I thought, "My God, what if he doesn't come back!!" Definitely gives people a good appreciation for what our 'boys in blue' do. That why military and law enforcement type guys are my favorite heroes.

JulieJulie Robinsonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10242380140265459688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6645668510437220267.post-34753186319570346312009-04-21T11:18:00.000-07:002009-04-21T11:18:00.000-07:00This is a wonderful post! I've often wondered about the ride along program, how to get in on it, what's involved, etc. This sounds like perfect research.C.S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/03405230532317363372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6645668510437220267.post-12193374839155918222009-04-21T11:05:00.000-07:002009-04-21T11:05:00.000-07:00It really was amazing and if you can, definitely d...It really was amazing and if you can, definitely do it. It has sparked a series of articles I'm going to do on real heroes. I'm planning on taking a night time (Friday or Saturday) drive along and to spend the evening in the cruiser. Then (fingers crossed) I'm going to try to spend a 24 shift with a fire station, if my DH can rig it for me. After that, a weekend up at Fort Lewis to interview returning Iraq vets. That adrenalin really hit the spot, I guess! :)Minnette Meadorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01450125026323940647noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6645668510437220267.post-67997830701726095192009-04-21T10:54:00.000-07:002009-04-21T10:54:00.000-07:00Hi Minette,This was a great post.
